Roles

Adarna House women at the 2010 Barlaya-2010 Workshop at Benilde

I was known as the guy with the camera at Adarna House, the company I used to work for. My office mates were used to me taking out my camera and snapping shots of them at odd moments. It was accepted.

It didn't come overnight though. It took some time getting used to this, for my office mates AND me. When the two of us were both comfortable with the roles of photographer and subject, it showed through the great shots I got with them, both for personal and professional use.

I guess for you and the streets, you have to do that, too. For the streets to get comfortable as your subject, you must also be comfortable (or just plain ready) with the role as photographer of its various facets and dwellers.

behind the (light) curtain

Your photo reminds me of society's interest with the everyday. It started with the everyday of the glamorous: Movie stars, Musicians, Top chefs, Fashion designers, Models. But now they are working their way to the everyday of everyday people. Just take a look at the latest reality TV shows and you'll know what I mean.

I'm okay with telling the story of those that fascinate. But I draw the line when it comes to revealing so much about them. I, for one, always want to be informed, but I, too, still want to be surprised.

a fuzzy feeling

There is comfort in blur.

I have a problem with the term bokeh though. It sounds so... sleezy.

or we ride a bus

barumbadong-bus-gifts
Riding the MRT is either boring or high blood inducing.

Ride a bus, an ordinary one while you're at it, and late at night to boot so there is no traffic to dampen the driver's need for speed. It's like riding a roller coaster, except it lasts longer, and can be declared as transportation expense when filing taxes.

What more can you ask for?
