And with that, summer time is here. That time of unnecessary fire accidents as well as unnecessary trips to the mall.

exile on mall street

The street used to be a family's outside house extension. Living room, dining room, guest room, playground, and comfort room all rolled into one. Lately though, it's the malls becoming everyone's new house extension: dining area, living room, guest room, study room, playground, church, hospital, sari-sari store, and palengke all rolled into one with a pinch of escapism and consumerism.

During the Spanish period, towns were made surrounding the seats of government and worship: The town hall and the Church. Today though, you'd see condominiums and townhouses made around malls, some even physically connected to them.

I decide not to think about what the next evolution of place would be after that, though. For a guy who works at home, I think I have my hands full enough already.

do the whirlwind

Last week was really something. With my photography external hard drive giving up the ghost, my pc reincarnated as a Windows 7 rig, as well as having to deal with the internet connection loss. Hell, our G11 is also on sick bay. It sure was a whirlwind.

But amidst it all, I had my camera bag strapped over my chest, as always.

Music plays a special role in the spirit of Christmas. They are like heralds announcing its coming as you walk along, minding your business. Halloween only has visual cues, with the costumes and scary decorations. But Christmas? You hear Jose Mari Chan and his daughter sing what's truly in our hearts and you know there is no escaping it. It's coming, whether we like it or not.

Choirs give Christmas a holy perspective. And bands, a formality that it is an event worth celebrating. Christmas songs on the radio condition you, and carolers are like alarm clocks reminding you of something you already know.

Oh, and Yoyoy Villame is also all year round, too. :)
